Winter Haircare

It’s time to put your winter haircare routine into action! Dry and dreary winter weather can wreak havoc on your hair health.  In winter conditions, it’s harder for hair to retain moisture which makes it brittle and prone to breaking. Another issue is frizz and static that often comes with winter clothing. We’ve got some excellent winter haircare tips for your winter hair routine.

Fight Flakes

Your scalp is drier and itchier than ever during the winter months because of thelack of moisture in the air. This leads to issues like dandruff and aggravated scalp irritation. Soothe your scalp and replenish moisture with a pre-shampoo treatment.  Take some Cibu Shine Squad treatment oil and rub onto flaky scalp areas.  Gently massage in and let sit for 10-20 minutes prior to washing.

Control FrizzWinter Haircare

Ever looked like you styled your hair with a balloon?  Static is prevalent during winter with all our woolen scarves, sweaters and hats. Fight static and frizz with a lukewarm wash and avoid hot water as to not strip away your natural oils that protect and nourish your hair. Finish with a leave-in conditioner. We love any of the options from It’s a 10! Ask your stylist which formula is best for your hair type.

Shine and Bounce

The lack of moisture in winter not only dries out your scalp and leaves hair frizzy, but it also leaves your hair looking dull and limp. Treat your tresses to a deep mask treatment to infuse your hair with shine and body.  Some of our favs include Redken Frizz Dismiss Intense Smoothing Treatment or Color Extend Magnetics Deep Attraction Mask. Simply apply from roots to tips on dry hair and cover with a shower cap for up to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and shampoo and condition as usual.

Drying your hair the right wayWinter Haircare

Drying your hair completely can be task, especially if it’s long, but you should never put your hair up while it’s still damp. Also avoid rubbing your hair with a towel as the friction will cause damage. The best way is to use a t-shirt or paper towel to blot your wet hair. This will gently remove the excess water from hair. Next put your hair dryer on a warm or cool setting. Switch to higher heat at the end to set your style. Another option to keep hair healthy is to let it air dry 80% and then use your hairdryer to finish.

Follow these tips to maintain healthy, shiny hair through the winter.  Also, make sure to walk in to Hair Cuttery for your 6-8 week trim and treat yourself to a customized Redken treatment. Stock up on any haircare products you’ll need for the colder months to update your haircare routine.  Most importantly, stay safe and warm this winter!
